Training helps schools assess and create a positive school climate, Crisis Action/Response Teams, clear policies, and effective violence prevention plans, with an emphasis on learning of early warning signs in troubled youth. (Note: Certification Training - Assessing Students for Early & Imminent Warning Signs see below Assessment of the Potentially Dangerous Student)
This training is based on National Research and a must training for those that work with children, adolescents and young adults. It is a "practical" training that teaches how to recognize anger, manage anger and de-escalate volatile situations in the classroom. It provides physical and non-physical means to stop or break up a fight with minimal risk to all involved.
The focus of this workshop is to produce a Crisis Action/Response Manual for the school district. Community Agencies, parents, and school personnel are brought together in the development of the Crisis Action/Response Manual along with School Site Specific Plan for each school in the district. Do you have a crisis plan or have you exercised your crisis plan lately?
Audience: Law Enforcement agencies, School Resource Officers, Fire Rescue, Emergency Services, Emergency Medical Technicians, Hospital ER staff, Clergy, PTA/PTO leaders, community volunteers and school officials. Objective: To produce a coordinated response plan, unique to each school but uniform in procedure, so that all efforts at the onset of a crisis can be focused on resolving the crisis. This workshop will highlight the uniqueness of each of the schools within the designated district, county or other boundary and identify areas in their crisis planning that can be made uniform. The schools will identify ways that they can be a resource for each other in the event of a crisis. Schools should insure that law enforcement and Fire Rescue have updated maps of every campus and floor plans of every building. Law enforcement agencies will discuss jurisdiction and roles in a variety of scenarios. There will be an open discussion of Responsibility and Authority. Medical personnel will discuss on site triage, mass casualty procedures and air evacuation requirements. The concept of Command Post operations will be presented. This is an overview version of "School Violence Readiness Training" It is designed to assist schools and first responders in implementing the procedures covered in the full training or in other Crisis Training that schools may have had. This training is interactive. Those who already have a Crisis Plan, should bring it with them to be incorporated into the training. Other areas that may be covered (which can be tailored to specific school needs) are Dress Code Issues, Visitors Policies, Student ID's, How Students can conceal weapons, Setting District wide Crisis Response Codes & Procedures, When to Evaluate and When not to Evacuate, Bomb Threat Procedures, Traffic Control and more....
Certifies attendees in the use of the Keys To Safe Schools.com Assessment Tool. Schools are awarded a License to Reproduce the Tool for their staff who attend. The training is based on National Level research by the Department of Education, Office of Juvenile Justice, the FBI, the Secret Service and others. It looks at "Why" we miss these students and "What" we can do to identify them. There is an emphasis on identification and assessment of early warning signs in Potentially Dangerous Student. It help School Officials determine a Potentially Dangerous Student from just a PRANKSTER by reading a score on a assessment instrument. Then use the Decision Tree to determine the Next Step. It provides schools a Risk Assessment Team Model as outlined in the Columbine Review Commission Report. . It requires minimum time to put in place and effectively identifies students who may need help. But schools should not stop with training Assessment Teams but should take the next step and provide an in-service for ALL staff in identification of Early Warning Signs.
This training has been enthusiastically received by school counselors, social workers, examiners and others who have found themselves dealing with troubled students. It guides participants through the process of recognizing the underlying causes of behavior disorders, developing a plan to effect behavioral changes and provides practical application of the completed behavior modification plan. Some of the disorders that may be dealt with are Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Intermittent Explosive Disorder, Conduct Disorder, and more. It is a refresher course for most counselors in diagnostic criteria and methods for effecting change in disruptive behaviors. It is a full day of intensive, interactive, hands-on instruction in development of behavioral modification plans. (no manual is included...just handouts and reference information)
Bus Driver Training Every
day millions of children ride a bus to and from school. There is only one
adult on board and his or her primary mission is the safe mechanical
operation of the vehicle on congested or lonely roads. Just as important is
his or her secondary mission of managing the students, their parents and
unexpected incidents along the route. This one-of-a-kind training is
designed to equip the driver with skills to handle this secondary mission.
The training includes taking classroom knowledge and moving it into physical
demonstrations on a bus, interactive exercises and sharing with others in
the field. All this serve to make the workshops dynamic and relevant. The
Guide that supports the training serves
as a great resource but was not intended to act as a “self taught”
lesson. Skills provided by this training include:
It is
based on Nationally Researched
projects and developed by professionals who have worked with students,
juvenile offenders and angry adults for many years. Not another class on

School students have reported an increase in bullying with severe consequences to themselves and their schools. As if this were not enough, bullying has been identified in a national study as a factor in the recent school shootings. At Columbine a group of school athletes bullied the two boys who later became shooters. Almost any group in anyone's school could be the "bullies" and and it would be accurate at some point in time. Bullying can be physical, emotional or social. Keys' Bullying Program offers four modules to fully address the different aspects of this complex issue. These are:
Training is available for Teachers and School Administrators dealing with bullying and developing effective policies on bullying. Keys can assist your school with Parenting Training and the development of Support groups on recognizing and dealing with bullying. Keys also offers General Assemblies to address the student body, and the curriculum for Conflict Resolution and Socializing skills for victims & bullies.
Evaluating Program Effectiveness by Goal Attainment Scaling-- This training is a didactic block of instruction followed by a workshop session in practical use of the G.A.S. method. This training will enable administrators, principals, counselors, program managers and evaluators to simultaneously rate the effectiveness of a program (like; (PBIS) Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports ) by generating rating system. Scores from this system will provide a measure of the overall effectiveness of the program. In programs that intend to reduce violence in schools or increase positive behaviors, G.A.S. methods can generate rating scores on how successful the program has been on reducing the numbers or proportions of violent incidents of several types (e.g., bullying, verbal attacks, physical assaults, incidents involving weapons, etc.). G.A.S. methods can also be used to rate the success of programs to change attitudes that are relevant to school violence. Follow on Training: This training can be supplemented by a contract for a Keys Consultant to assist G.A.S. method users in selecting, defining, measuring, and weighting goals, and in ongoing use of the method to track goal attainment over extended periods of time.
This training is presented with today’s schools and students in mind; however, it applies to anyone who routinely finds himself or herself in conflict with another person. Those who attend this training will learn:
There will be practical exercises during the training that will guide the participants through techniques that can be taken back to the classroom or workplace and passed on to students and/or peers.
