Parents gather outside the Red Lake High
School in Minnesota after the shooting rampage took place. |
REDBY,
MN. March 22, 2005 — Possibly the worst U.S. school shooting since
Columbine in 1999. The student-gunman was said to smile and
wave as he gunned down five students, a teacher and a guard, his grandfather
and his grandfather's wife earlier, and then killing himself. The rampage
erupted at the 300-student Red Lake High School about 3 p.m.
Reggie Graves who
is at Red Lake High School, said he was watching a movie about Shakespeare
in class when he heard gun-firer as the shooter entered the school's main
entrance, killing a guard.
This student heard the gunman say something to another
student in a class across the hall. “He asked the student if he believed
in God”, the witness said. "And then he shot him."
The death toll
at the Red Lake Indian Reservation in northern Minnesota is at 10. The
victims included the gunman's grandfather; the grandfather's wife; a school
security guard; a teacher; five other students, and the gunman. At least a
number of
others were wounded, and two of them remained in critical condition Tuesday
at MeritCare in Fargo, N.D.
